According to the village elders, Ha Thon conical hat production has appeared for nearly 100 years. Since 1995, this traditional trade village has been developed strongly with 75 households making conical hats with 50,000 products a year. At present, there are more than 740 villagers live from the craft, making up 80% in the total with more than 1,000 products a year.

Conical hat production value of the village reaches VND3.7 billion a year, making up 25% of total income of the locality, contributing to solving jobs for local people, raising the average income per capita to VND4 million a year.

The conical hats often consist of 16 brims and are made from palm leaves and bamboo. Unlike hats made in some other areas, Ha Thon conical hats are attractive, delicate and durable thank to the makers’ excellent skills.

These hats not only protect the wearers from the sun or rain, but also help make the girls even more charming, which have made them an endless source of inspiration for poets and writers. The hats have become popular with many domestic and foreign visitors, who buy conical hats as a souvenir for their relatives or friends.
